Clos Otto Shiraz

Opulence, complexity and balance all come to mind when thinking about the Clos Otto Shiraz...

With vines planted by previous owner Otto Kasper using a cutting from an ageing and secret Shiraz clone, and tended to with almost antique machinery and a well-practiced hand, the Clos Otto vineyard consistently yields super low quantities with ultra-rich flavours.

"Shiraz sourced from Hentley Farm's Clos Otto plot (G block) on the Seppeltsfield estate. It is a stunner. Deep, inky crimson in the glass with super-opulent aromas of ripe satsuma plum, black cherry and blueberry fruits, layered with dark spice, ironstone, olive tapenade, violets, kirsch, cocoa powder, fairly softly spoken vanillin oak and dark chocolate. Like slipping into a velvet armchair, all-enveloping fruit and spice with a stunning chocolatey tannin profile and a finish that shows excellent sustain. Balanced, graceful and super plush, geez it's good."

“Very deep, dark, dense colour with a tinge of purple and a deep and brooding nose that shows plenty of smart oak tidily allied with rich fruit, very ripe but not jammy or jubey, the baked earth/terracotta and brown-spice aromas crowning the generous Western Barossa fruit. The wine is concentrated, dense and powerful but not overdone. A very impressive big Barossa shiraz. The structure is what makes it.”
