Vintage 2019 was characterised by dry conditions throughout the growing season, with no rainfall recorded. Warm temperatures prevailed, fostering rapid ripening and a condensed harvest period. Despite the challenges, these conditions led to grapes with intense flavors and tannins, resulting in wines of remarkable power and structure.
Our Grenache vines, located on E Block, feature very shallow red clay loam overlying shattered limestone, with rows oriented north-south to maximise sunlight exposure. Its elevated eastern aspect enhances early morning sun exposure while mitigating afternoon heat. These conditions result in reduced natural vine vigor, leading to an intense and vibrant flavor profile in the fruit.
The wine's fermentation involved 35% of the must spending 6 days on skins, 25% undergoing whole bunch fermentation, and 40% subjected to extended maceration for 60 days. Aging took place in 100% old French oak barrels, with natural malolactic fermentation occurring during an 8-month maturation period.

“Medium-depth purple/red hue. The aromas are fresh and grapy, fruit-driven and youthful, with attractive raspberry and sweet spice nuances. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with abundant firmness on the long-lasting finish and a note of brandied cherry coming through in time. It's very varietal as well as generously flavoured and structured. It appears to have good cellaring potential.” -HUON HOOKE,The Real Review
