Vintage 2019 was characterised by dry conditions throughout the growing season, with no rainfall recorded. Warm temperatures prevailed, fostering rapid ripening and a condensed harvest period. Despite the challenges, these conditions led to grapes with intense flavors and tannins, resulting in wines of remarkable power and structure.
This wine is a blend of 3 blocks from within our vineyard, all on the western side ofthe creek with variances in top soil depth, subsoil type, row orientation, and micro-climate. The top soil is predominately a red clay loam, and the subsoil varies fromshattered limestone to salt & pepper siltstone and bluestone at depth. All vinesare grown on their own roots
The fruit was crushed and destemmed before fermentation, during which 2-3 pump-overs per day were conducted to develop a full tannin structure. The wine remained on skins for 62 days before being basket pressed and transferred to a mix of 35% new and 65% used French barrels for natural malolactic fermentation. The wines were then racked off the lees and returned to oak, maturing for a total of 22 months.
